How Does Wolfe’s Neck Center Work?

How Does Wolfe’s Neck Center Work?

At Wolfe’s Neck Center, we recently reorganized our program areas to bring collaborative teams and projects closer together. One result of these changes is that we can tell a clearer story about the change we want to see in the regional food system – and how we’re going to get there.

At its roots, we strive to create inspiration, innovation, and connection. Inspiration – that communities and farmers can make a difference by working together. Innovation – by embracing lessons of the past and present to make agriculture more resilient. Connection – between our partners and between people and the land.

Our work is organized across three mutually-supporting program areas:

Farmer Training & Partnerships

  • Training the next generation of farmers through the Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship program at our organic dairy and at farm sites across the Northeast region
  • Connecting farmers and sharing knowledge with the New England Grazing Network
  • Putting soil science to work for land stewards through technological innovation

Research & Market Transformation

  • Advancing the science of regenerative agriculture through collaborations, on-farm research projects and sharing practical findings with the public
  • Helping farmers produce and market regenerative agricultural products with the Northeast Farmers Fund
  • Catalyzing financial investment in regenerative supply chains and incentives

Visitor Education & Experience

  • Giving children transformative food and farming experiences through Farm Camp and field trips
  • Introducing visitors and campers to responsible land stewardship
  • Connecting food choices to environmental outcomes through our Culinary program and community events

The Casco History Lab bridges our program areas, collaborating with internal staff and external partners to activate knowledge preserved through oral traditions, historic records, archaeological sites, and buildings to tell the stories of how people have cared for and stewarded this land over millennia.

We hope you’ll follow along with us as we convene more farmers, scientists, funders, and community members like you. Support us by sharing information with your networks, coming to Freeport for an event or a visit, or making a donation to our nonprofit organization.
