Nathaniel Maddix

Nathaniel grew up in southern Maine and first started farming as a student at the College of the Atlantic. After college, he pursued graduate studies in ethnobotany at the University of Kent, including fieldwork in the agroforestry system of the Spanish Dehesa.

He moved to Cambodia in 2016, first working in communications and program support at Save the Children. That was followed by a role with a local conservation agriculture organization working with rice farmers to grow organic rice and protect endangered wildlife habitats.

He moved back to Maine in 2021 with the motivation to engage in hands-on horticultural skills development and has since worked in a plant nursery and greenhouse business. During this time he also completed a permaculture design certificate course. He is very grateful and excited to be working with the Fruit & Vegetable Farm crew this season.
