Our diversified livestock are free-range, raised humanely on lush oceanfront pasture free from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. They are an integral part of our regenerative farm plan to keep our grasses vegetative and productive, our soils healthy, and our farmland utilized to its fullest potential.
Our meat products are also for sale in our Farm Store, open 8am-8pm daily, May–October.
Our beef comes from heifers and cows that have been raised here at Wolfe’s Neck, being fed primarily pasture, baleage, and hay. Our cattle are supplemented with grain to provide a more balanced diet through the entirety of their life. Our beef is processed by Herring Brothers, a small family-run abattoir in Maine. Beef is available for bulk order as well as by the whole, half, quarter and eighth of an animal.
A variety of cuts (steaks, ribs, hot dogs, hamburgers, ground beef, and more) are available for purchase in the Farm Store from June–October.
Our lambs are raised almost entirely on lush oceanfront grass, the only exception being during lambing season when lambs are given access to a “starter” grain – a high-energy, highly palatable feed that helps get the lambs off to a great start. After weaning, lambs are turned onto our carefully managed pastures, grazing smaller fields and periphery areas that our cows and heifers don’t get to. Our lambs and other diversified livestock are an integral part of our regenerative farm plan to keep our grasses vegetative and productive, our soils healthy, and our farm land utilized to its fullest potential.
We buy in 10-15 feeder pigs every spring from a local breeder in central Maine. Our pigs are raised on forested field edges where they enjoy daily exercise, pig piles and shade. We position our pigs in areas laden with our invasive multi-floral rose which has become a problematic invasive woody perennial. The pigs have a knack for uprooting them from the ground and renovating valuable land we are losing to invasive spread. We raise the pigs with a 24 foot cattle trailer which they use for napping in on hot summer days and seeking shelter on rainy days.
Retail cuts are available May 1-November 1, special requests and bulk orders available upon request pending availability.
Our hens lead a very peaceful, natural life. They are never confined to a cage and are given access to free range every day. They can take dust baths, socialize, roost, scratch and eat insects to their little hearts’ content.
The production coop houses 200 birds and is located near the center of our campus so our farm camp kids can learn about poultry science and help with daily chores. Visitors are also welcome to walk up and watch the hens as they strut their stuff. We do not clip our birds’ wings or electrify their fencing to ensure a safe experience for our young visitors who especially enjoy a close up experience. Visitors may see some of the more adventurous birds pecking around outside of their fence – fear not! Farmer Tom always makes sure all the birds make it back to the coop safely before dark.
Eggs are available for sale in our farm store July 1 through November 1.
